Ford Ranger Not Coming Back to US

Ford is set to unveil the new next-generation Ranger at the 2010 Australian International Motor Show in October. The truck is based on a Ford global platform, and will be up for sale in 180 global markets - except the United States and Canada.

According to Autoblog writer Derrick Kuzak, "Ford's group vice president of global product development, said that the automaker does not plan to launch the Ranger, a compact pickup developed in Australia, at this time."

"It's an all-new truck with new power trains that promise truck leadership in markets outside of North America," said Kuzak.

Why is the Ranger no longer available in America? The new global Ranger is 90 percent of the size of the current F-150. Ford believes American buyers would "just as soon spend a little more money for a larger, more capable vehicle."

"Right-hand drive is required in the rest of the world and other regulations, both safety and emissions, impacted that decision," Kuzak added. But, quoting Kuzac, Autoblog noted that there are other forces also at work.

The compact pickup market in North America has been declining for the past 15 years. Dropping from 8% of auto sales in 1994 to 2% today.

Although Ford has yet to reveal any technical specialties of the vehicle, it said the new Ranger will return "impressive gains in power and fuel economy."

"Australia has played a leading role in the development of this latest global Ford product," said Joe Hinrichs, president, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa. "Ranger is symbolic of how our great product development capability is being leveraged by the ONE Ford plan like never before."

You can purchase a quality pre-owned Ford Ranger or new F-150 today at Jensen Dealerships - 3909 Stadium Dr - Sioux City, IA 51106.

Chrysler Joining Forces with Maserati?

Maserati is getting ready to introduce the all new "entry-level" sedan somewhere below their current Quattroporte vehicle. The vehicle has been the subject of much speculation, but the latest hits a little closer to home. This car is expected to be based on, reports say, the current Chrysler 300C.

According to reports, the vehicle underpinnings are shared with the next Chrysler 300. This in contrast with previous reports that the Trident marque was looking to develop a new platform for the model. This could be a good, yet expense move for the new Fiat/Chrysler empire.

Closer collaboration is expected between the Chrysler and Lancia divisions, which could also lead to a next-gen 300-based successor.

As sources point out, "this wouldn't be the first time that Maserati and Chrysler have gotten into bed with each other."

Close ties between onetime Chrysler chief Lee Iacocca and Alejandro de Tomaso (head of the sports car company that once owned Maserati) led to the disastrous exercise known as the Chrysler TC by Maserati. If these latest rumors turn out to be fact, we can expect to see an upgraded Chrysler 300 to be as luxurious as Maserati, and the Italian luxury vehicle to be (almost) as affordable as a Chrysler.
