Dodge Plans to Introduce a New Dart

Dodge has been dropping hints about plans to introduce a new compact model to their lineup for quite some time now. Finally - we know what it is: the Dart. That's right; they're giving the 60s favorite a modern-day refresh for the 2013 model year.

If you've been keeping up with Dodge models in recent years. You might find this comes as a bit of a surprise. And, indeed, it is. The new Dodge Dart represents the first compact model Dodge has introduced to the market since the Neon, which retired back in 2005. The model it's replacing is the Dodge Caliber.

Why bring back a retired model? A fair question with a simple answer: times change. Until recently, small cars were not accepted with open arms. But, now, Americans' infatuation with big, boat-like cars and excessively large SUVs is waning. Furthermore, Dodge isn't simply bringing the model back. They're revamping the retro icon with a suite of advancements, starting with its core.

The framework of the new Dodge Dart is borrowed largely from the award-winning Alfa Romeo Guiuletta, famed for its agile prowess, road-hugging stance and superior safety. Likewise, it stands to reason the new 2013 Dart is reported to deliver class-leading aerodynamics and industry-leading use of high-strength steel in the body.

Combine this with three unique engine variants, offering healthy pep - including one that delivers 40 mg on the highway  and Dodge is sure to hit their bull's-eye - a segment of drivers looking for a more than just an economic compact, but a fun driving experience worth tweeting to their friends about.
