Serving Others at The Hope Center Food Pantry

A small group of volunteers wrapped up 2022 by volunteering at The Hope Center's food pantry. The Hope Center is a little different from most food pantry organizations in that the individual can walk thru the store and pick the items they want and need. The group worked in a number of positions during one of the twice weekly food distributions. Some aided in shopping with individuals; some helped distribute the larger food packages; others helped in the check-out process and loaded vehicles. The Hope Center has been the beneficiary of the Subaru Share the Love Event but for some of our employees, it was their first time visiting. It was a very rewarding experience for everyone involved and we saw firsthand the impact we have made. Thru November 2022, The Hope Center has served 510 unique households every two weeks; helped 11,212 guests that have visited; and distributed 630,000 pounds of food..

Thankful to Help Others

During the month of November, employees found themselves reflecting on how thankful and blessed we are. We all know of friends, neighbors, customers and others that are struggling and the holidays add even more stress for many to make ends meet. We wanted to find a way that we could help those around us in need. The Gospel Mission in Sioux City helps fill the void for many. They shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, and clothe the poor. They are currently serving approximately 15,000 meals each month and serving the needs of about 70 families (25 was the previous "normal"). The Gospel Mission receives no assistance as they rely 100% on the kindness of those in the community. All month, employees could be seen bringing in non-perishable food, hygiene items and clothing. Our table in the lobby was overflowing and boxes/bags were stacked underneath. It was a touching scene when their van pulled up and employees were eager to load it up. It was a great way to launch into our Subaru Share the Love event as it was evident this was a labor of love!

Helping Make Christmas Special for the Children

We are feeling the spirit of the holidays and we wanted to do our part in making sure some children in the Siouxland community felt the spirit, too. The Community Action Agency of Siouxland coordinates a Christmas gift program that has been such an important part of our community for over 30 years. This year they hope to help approximately 500 children from over 150 low-income families by ensuring that the children have presents under the tree on Christmas morning. Jensen Subaru's employees all pitched in to purchase and wrap gifts for 10 deserving children. Everyone had such a great time picking out the perfect gifts and wrapping them up. It means so much to all of us knowing this would make such an impact on Christmas morning for these children. Our only wish would be to see the look of joy on the children's faces as they open their gifts.

A Purr-fect Ending to October

In talking with several volunteers at Noah's Hope Animal Rescue, we often heard the need for dog and cat food and that the supply shelves at Noah's Hope were almost empty. It didn't take long for everyone to come together and bring in almost 400 pounds of food for their shelves! October was a great month for Jensen Subaru and our partnership with Noah's Hope Animal Rescue. We saw them adopt 31 animals during the month (13 of them at our first ever adoption event alone!) and now we hope this food will give them the additional support they need in helping their remaining animals find their fur-ever homes.

Appreciating our First Responders

October 28th was National First Responders Day and the employees at Jensen Subaru wanted to show their appreciation. Armed with trays of cookies, employees went to all seven fire stations plus the headquarters for the Sioux City Police and Fire Departments. A small gesture on our part to thank them for dedicating their lives to saving others. It was a nice way to interact with these first responders and letting them know how much we value them.

Aiding the homeless in Sioux City

Statistics estimate that there are over 230 homeless individuals in Sioux City. While that number may not be much compared to the larger cities, especially those in warmer climates, it is far too many in our small city especially during the harsh winter weather. Thanks to places like The Warming Shelter, there hasn't been a casualty due to the winter weather in the last five years. The Warming Shelter welcomes any and all who are in need of shelter. Not only do they provide shelter and food, but they provide hope. They help individuals try to reintegrate themselves back into the community.

During the Subaru Loves to Help campaign, Jensen Subaru wanted to donate more than socks so we contacted The Warming Shelter to see what other needs they may have. On Friday, March 10th, we were happy to deliver quite a few items from their list such as bags/backpacks, clothing, paper goods and hygiene items. With another cold snap and upcoming snowstorm to hit our area in the coming days ahead, we know that these items will be appreciated and used.
